Bank Animal Care Assistant (Holiday Cover)

Location: Cranborne, Dorset 

Hours: Holiday cover only. 2/3 hours per day, including weekends

Hourly Rate: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour (depending on experience) + 14.5% holiday pay

Aurora Boveridge College is a beautiful manor house that has been converted into an exceptional college. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Aurora Boveridge College sits in 16 acres of listed gardens and a wider 50-acre campus, located in the Dorset countryside near the village of Cranborne. The college facilities include multi-use sports areas, beautifully manicured gardens, a forestry school, indoor and outdoor therapy spaces, horticulture and animal care spaces, a motor vehicle workshop and much more. 

 

The main purpose of the role:

 

We have a number of animals at Boveridge College including Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, Goats, Sheep, Alpacas, Chickens and Hamsters. The role of the Animal Care Assistant will be to ensure the wellbeing of our animals during the College holidays.

 

Key duties:

  • Ensuring that the animals are cleaned, fed and checked on a daily basis throughout the College holidays
  • Report any concerns to the Head of Care and where necessary make appointments and take unwell animals to the vets for treatment
  • Refilling food and water daily
  • Cleaning their shelters/hutches on a weekly basis
  • Ensuring all animals and are cared for appropriately
  • The Goats and Sheep will need to be checked for fly strike in the warmer months and administer Ectofly.
  • Goats and Sheep will also require regular worm counts to be taken (faeces sent to the vets) and heptavac jab once a year.

Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities:

  • Experience of looking after a wide range of animals
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal Literacy skills.
  • Be able to meet the demands of what can be physically challenging work at times.
  • Be able to work within a rota pattern including unsocial hours and weekends.
  • Depending on the location/nature of some provisions, the role may require a full valid driving licence
