Aurora White House School

We’re currently looking for a part-time SENCO to join our all-through special school.

Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora White House School in Quidenham, Norwich provides day placements for children aged 5 to 16 years old, primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.  Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning. All of whom are delightful, many coming with significant amounts of additional clinical support from our own therapy team. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

The successful candidate will divide their time between some cover for other teaching colleagues but substantially working with the SENCo team to support teaching and learning across the school and lead on school based interventions, including delivering and supporting interventions arising from our annual review work and teacher assessments.

We work in a rich multi-disciplinary environment and some experience of working with a range of additional professionals, including clinicians would be helpful, although not essential.

Our approach to curriculum development and delivery is robust and built upon the strong foundations of well-developed relationships with the children, along with the golden threads of:

  • Identity & Relationships, Communication & Interaction, Health & Wellbeing, and Society & the Wider World.
  • We base our curriculum on a strong primary foundation, with the principles of early years education weaving through, including a playful approach to living and learning in our school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The role would require you to have a small teaching commitment, covering colleagues.
  • Take on the responsibilities of other SENCo colleagues, occasionally conducting reviews as agreed and appropriate in their absence
  • Lead on school based interventions arriving from SENCo work (directing and coaching staff)
  • Directly carry out interventions, teaching support and assessments following on from actions arriving from annual review meetings and described provision within EHCP’s
  • Support teachers and class teams to ensure that assessments and evidence of progress towards EHCP outcomes are recorded on Earwig and inform future planning and provision.
  • Work closely with clinical colleagues in pursuit of the best possible outcomes for children.
  • Ideally be responsible for the English curriculum and progress and assessment of children within it, including implementing our phonic intervention Read, Write, Inc. If the ideal candidate for the substantive Operational SENCo part of the role wasn’t able to offer English subject leadership, we might be interested in removing this part of the job scope.
  • Carry out the professional duties of a teacher as required, liaising with teachers where you cover their absence.
