Overview and Responsibilities

Pastoral Lead, Aurora Woodlands School

Hours: 40 hours per week, Mon – Fri, term time only

Salary: £38,500 (pro rata actual pay; £33,072.98)

Location: Darwen, Lancashire

The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.  Aurora Brooklands School is an independent day school in Lancashire providing specialist education for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).

 

The main purpose of the role:

 

The Pastoral Lead is to take a central role as behaviour for learning lead on a day to day basis, as well as being responsible for ensuring a proactive approach to behaviour interventions and support. The Pastoral Lead will undertake this interesting and multi-faceted role within our shared values and ethos.

 

Key Duties: 

  • Monitor and track behaviour for learning trends via ENGAGE and use this tracking to plan behaviour intervention work and monitor its impact.
  • Model and coach behaviour for learning strategies with staff.
  • Contribute to governance reporting in relation to behaviour
  • Oversee the rewards policy, ensuring this is consistently used by all staff and provides effective motivation for pupils.
  • Have oversight and responsibility for updating risk assessments and handling plans
  • Work closely with the DSL and Head of School
  • You will facilitate & support The student council, Student meetings, Termly student questionnaires and Develop a student voice programme
  • Promote and model good relationships with parents and carers, which are based on partnerships to support and improve students’ achievement.
  • Contribute to the development of the school as a community within the community; strengthening partnerships with families, neighbours, our local and wider community, other services and the local authority.

Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and behaviours: 

  • Evidence of professional qualifications to Level 3 or above in a relevant area plus English and Maths to a minimum of level 2.
  • Extensive experience of supporting students in a pastoral or wellbeing role (essential).
  • Knowledge and experience of supporting of students with ASD, SEMH and associated complex needs such as mental health conditions.
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles 
  • Experience of a range of approaches to managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours
  • The ability to remain calm and reflective when working in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge and experience in supporting children with ASD, SEMH and associated complex needs
