SEND Assistant 

 

Location:Rockshaw Road, Chaldon, Surrey 
Contract Type: Permanent 
Actual salary: £27,713 - £30,250 dependant on qualifications and experience  
Hourly rate: £15.51 - £16.93 per hour 
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time only - Start time 8.15am - Finish time Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 4.45pm. Thursday 5pm and Friday 4pm  

Start Date:  September 2025

As part of our growth strategy, The Aurora Group are really pleased to be opening a brand new SEND Secondary School in September 2025 in Chaldon, Surreyfor young people aged 11-16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism. All our students have access to a broad and exciting curriculum, allied to the national curriculum, personalised to meet their needs, interests and passions. With a model of small classes, high levels of classroom support and a supernumerary multi-disciplinary intervention team we are able to give students “every opportunity to achieve”  

 

We are looking to recruit a SEND Assistant to join our team at Chaldon School. This is an exciting opportunity to join the school at the start of their journey. You will be based at Aurora Chaldon school with a requirement to work out of our satellite site Caterham when required 

 

The main purpose of the role: 

 

The purpose of the SEND Assistant is to assist the SENDCo with the promotion of an inclusive approach to SEN across the school

Key duties: 

 

Recording and Assessment 

  • Set up systems for identifying, reviewing and monitoring needThis includes the management (chairing) of Annual Reviews for EHCPs 
  • Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings and at parents’ evenings

Leadership 

  • Support SENDCo in delivering training opportunities for learning support assistants and teachers to learn about SEN, including whole-school inset 
  • Disseminate good practice in SEN across the school 
  • To support the SENDCo with the development of transition arrangements and integration into provision post-Eccles 
  • Liaise with the outside professionals and manage/disseminate to staff their reporting 
  • To keep abreast of developments in SEN (e.g. research, changes to the law) and inform SLT and Head where appropriate 
  • To attend appropriate training, CPD and conferences and provide feedback to colleagues 
  • Support teaching staff in modelling good practice in teaching pupils with SEN including those with more complex needs 

Other Responsibilities 

  • To willingly undertake any reasonable task requested by the Head teacher and take part in the duties and extra-curricular activities of this busy school.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidate qualities: 

  • SENCO/Access Arrangement Assessor qualifications preferred, or the desire to acquire these.  
  • GCSE Maths and English qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential. 
  • Teaching qualification preferable but not essential, however teaching qualification is needed to achieve the National Award in SEND Coordination. 
  • Relevant and recent knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN  
  • Sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
