Unqualified Teacher – Food Technology

 

Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent,
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £21,731 to £33,902 (depending on skills and experience)
Location: St Ives, Cambridge

We are looking to recruit an Unqualified Food Tech Teacher to join our team at Fairway School in St Ives, Cambridge.

Fairway is a warm and welcoming school which places student wellbeing and safety at the heart of our provision. Our building is a converted golf pavilion and we have adopted our vision of ‘Driving Futures Together’ from that sporting sentiment.  Our students are aged 11-16 year olds with a range of complex learning needs including social, emotional and mental health needs, speech, language and communication difficulties and autism.

Key Duties:

You’ll be joining our wonderful Teaching Team, providing outstanding teaching and learning of Food Technology.  You’ll be designing hands-on, engaging learning opportunities that build young people’s skills, knowledge and understanding for lifelong learning.

 

Key Duties include: 

 

  • Prepare and deliver structured food technology lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils with SEN, including those with Autism and ADHD.
  • Adapt materials, tasks and instructions to meet diverse learning styles, sensory needs and communication abilities.
  • Ensure safe use of equipment and maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene at all times.
  • Use visual supports and other resources to support understanding and engagement.
  • Implement individual behaviour plans, following the student support plan, effectively using de-escalation techniques when required.
  • Support pupils in developing practical cooking and self-help skills appropriate to their age and ability.
  • Empower students to grow their own ingredients and transform them into delicious, nutritious meals – where garden meets kitchen in every lesson.
  • Ensure that all students are given quality, accessible feedback in order to make effective progress. 
  • Observe and document pupil progress and development, contributing to progress reports and qualification portfolios.
  • Contribute to the development of key skills for all students (Maths, English, life skills)
  • Liaise with teaching assistants, the clinical team, SENDCO, families and other stakeholders to ensure consistent support for each pupil.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

 

  • No formal qualification required but an understanding of food preparation and health and safety standards would benefit the suitable candidate.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEND relevant to provision/needs of cohort
  • Experience planning and delivering engaging, practical, differentiated and hands-on lessons including the development of skills for life
  • Experience of building positive and trusted relationships
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Competent ICT skills
