SEN Teacher – Semi Formal Curriculum

Location: Leyland, Nr Preston, Lancashire 

Salary: M1 –UPS2 (£32,916-£49,232/annum) dependent on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week

Start date: 1st January 2026 (or sooner if possible)

We’re currently looking for an experienced Teacher in Leyland, Nr. Preston where our Brooklands School provides specialist academic and therapeutic support in a welcoming environment for students aged 9-16 who face challenges associated with social, emotional and mental health needs.

 

The Role:

To deliver a high quality play based informal EYFS/KS1 curriculum to Key Stage 2 and 3 age pupils in classes no bigger than 8 students. 

 

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the class and assist in other relevant aspects of the day to day running of the school.
  • To assess, record and report pupils’ progress according the school’s policy in order to monitor and foster pupils’ progress in all areas of learning.
  • To take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • To lead support and supervision sessions for Assistant Teachers and Higher Level Teaching Assistants including Professional Development Reviews.
  • To attend and contribute to teachers’ meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings and any other relevant staff meetings.
  • To ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of pupils informing the care staff, medical staff, behaviour support team and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Skills and Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
  • At least 2 years Teaching Experience with completion of ECT
  • Working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND.
  • Evidence of sound knowledge and understanding of the Early Years and KS1 curriculum.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of autism, ADHD and associated complex conditions and how these can affect learning and behaviour.
  • Evidence of a sound knowledge and understanding of emotional and sensory regulation
