Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SaLTA) – Aurora Meldreth and Orchard Manor 

 

Location: Meldreth, Nr. Royston 

Salary: £12.37 - £13.49 per hour, £25,729.60 - £28,059.20 per annum 

Hours: 40 hours per week, 52 weeks a year  

Contract: Permanent

Closing date: Friday 3rd October at 12pm

We are currently looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our Aurora Meldreth and Orchard Manor team.

 

Meldreth Manor School, Meldreth Manor Children’s Home and Orchard Manor provide education, care and therapeutic support for children aged 6-19 years and young adults aged 18 – 30 years with severe and profound communication, cognitive and physical difficulties associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury and degenerative disorders.

 

Job Role

 

The role is a challenging, but exciting one, and will require you to be adaptive in providing communication and feeding support according to the individual needs of the young people we support.  

 

The post will combine clinical and administrative duties. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team under the supervision of the Speech and Language Therapist.  You will be delivering therapy programmes to individuals and groups of Aurora Meldreth and Orchard Manor.  The post holder will provide speech and language therapy services as directed by the Speech and Language Therapist.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage a designated caseload with supervision from speech and language therapist
  • Regularly review and monitor progress with speech and language therapist
  • To carry out communication and feeding programmes as set by the speech and language therapist. These sessions may be individual, small groups or in a class / residential setting
  • Reporting any changing communication or eating and drinking needs to the speech and language therapist
  • Maintain confidential clinical records
  • To contribute to initial communication and eating and drinking assessments
  • To design, organise and prepare therapy activities and resources to work on therapy goals
  • Contribute to the preparation and running of training for staff and families
  • Organising and manage resource base including maintenance and order of equipment
  • To work with the wider multi-disciplinary team including education and therapy team
  • General administrative duties for the speech and language therapy department

Duties will vary and you must expect to lend a hand wherever is required, this is a busy role that will require the ability to multitasking.

Experience needed

  • Supporting people with complex communication needs
  • Working with people with dysphagia
  • Working in early years, school or college settings
