SEN Assistant Head, Maternity Cover FTC

📍 Location: Wilmslow, Cheshire East
💰 Salary: Leadership Scale Level 1 to 3 £51,773 to £54,394   (depending on experience and qualifications)
🕒 Hours: Full-Time – 40 hours per week – Fixed Term Contract until Easter 2027

With a proposed capacity of 50 students, we are an independent specialist school supporting children and young people aged 5–19 with Autism spectrum conditions and associated challenges in accessing education.

🎯 The Role

We’re seeking an exceptional Assistant Head Teacher to join our Senior Leadership Team. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the school, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and wellbeing.

You will:

  • Lead by example, modelling outstanding SEN practice and a positive, inclusive ethos.
  • Support the Head of School in delivering high standards of teaching and learning across the curriculum.
  • Champion staff development through coaching, mentoring, and professional learning.
  • Oversee transitions for pupils at key stages and into post-16 pathways.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing by liaising with internal and external support services.
  • Contribute to school improvement through data analysis, lesson observations, and strategic planning.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day running of your team and deputize for the Head of School when required.

Skills and Qualifications

We’re looking for a resilient, creative leader who:

  • Has successful experience teaching pupils with ASC and ADHD.
  • Has held a leadership role and contributed to school improvement.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is passionate about inclusive education and staff development.
  • Has strong knowledge of Ofsted, Independent School Standards, and school development planning.

Requirements

  • Degree and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Enhanced DBS with Barred List Check
  • UK Driving Licence
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training
