SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant

 

📍 Location: Wilmslow, Cheshire East
💰 Salary: £14.77 – £16.13 per hour (depending on experience and qualifications)
🕒 Hours: Full-Time – 40 hours per week – Term Time Only

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistance looking for promotion? If so we are seeking  to appoint a SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our growing team.

 

Experience in supporting educational interventions or working with children who are verbal, and have Autism, would be advantageous.

 

The Role

 

As a growing new school you’ll play a key role in supporting development of this exciting new provision.

 

You will be expected to establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with pupils in order to enable them to feel safe, allowing them to enjoy and learn during their time at the School.

 

You will support the growth of the School and Teaching Assistant team and be a mentor or first point of call for newly appointed staff.

 

You will have good knowledge of ASC practice and support others to understand and deliver this across the school.

 

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, your role will be to support high quality teaching, effective use of resources, and high standards of learning and achievement for all students. 

 

In the event of short term absence you’ll take the lead to support or deliver programmes of planned work. Assessing, recording and reporting on development, progress and attainment as required. This may require you to assist in scaffolding and delivering the curriculum at any allocated Key Stage.

 

To facilitate this, you’ll be expected to know and understand the Class Teacher’s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes, modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision.

 

Where necessary this may include from time to time supporting with care needs/ life skills/  as well as positive behaviour management, adopting a tailored approach to the individual child.

 

Like many SEN environments; your duties are likely to vary and therefore candidates will need to be flexible and be able to lend a hand whenever required.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate: 

  • The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 3/4 qualification is required
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own car desirable 
  • GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD  
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
  • Ability to adapt
  • The desire to put the child first and treat them as an individual  
  • Be positive and creative in assisting to meet pupils’ individual needs
