Aurora Coalville School is opening its doors in early 2027 and we’re looking for an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team and help shape the future of our specialist SEMH provision. This is a rare opportunity to be part of something truly transformative.

 

Aurora Coalville will be a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious school for children and young people aged 5–19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. With a capacity of 88 students, our vision is to create a safe, enriching and aspirational environment where every learner can thrive.

 

The Role

As Deputy Head Teacher, you’ll work closely with the Head Teacher to lead and manage the school to the highest professional standards. You’ll take strategic responsibility for teaching and learning, student assessment, and progress — while also deputising for the Head Teacher when required.

 

You’ll play a key role in:

  • Driving school improvement through effective planning and evaluation
  • Leading on careers, employability, and work experience
  • Supporting staff development, appraisals, and wellbeing
  • Maintaining a teaching commitment and modelling best practice
  • Building strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate the following:

  • Qualified Teacher Status with leadership experience
  • Proven track record of teaching excellence in a special needs environment (SEMH/ASD)
  • Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment, and data analysis
  • Experience in staff development, appraisal, and team leadership
  • Knowledge of OFSTED requirements and current developments in special education
  • Ability to inspire, support and lead through example
