SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant

R.E.A.L Education – City Hub in Nottingham
Salary:  £15.37 – £16.78 per hour depending on skills and experience

Permanent Contract working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, term time

Here at R.E.A.L. Education, part of the wider Aurora Group, we’re excited to welcome a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our small City Hub. If you’re passionate about helping young people reconnect with learning and rediscover their confidence, this is a role where you can truly change lives.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to help every young person re‑engage, rebuild and reach their full potential. Relationships sit at the heart of everything we do, and we pride ourselves on creating safe, supportive environments where learners feel seen, valued and understood.

This role is working with young people of secondary age, with social, emotional, and mental health needs, who struggle in mainstream settings.  We ensure they receive the encouragement, structure and opportunities they deserve.

A Learning Experience Like No Other

At R.E.A.L., education is personalised and flexible. You’ll support learning through:

  • Assisting a teacher in a group of 4 learners
  • Leading a session for 2 learners
  • Occasional one to one sessions

Our curriculum is wonderfully diverse and you’ll be supporting and delivering a variety of core lessons with English being key! But will also include a wide variety of others such as Cookery, Business Studies, PSHE and Functional Skills.

A Role Full of Variety and Purpose

No two days look the same. You might be:

  • Supporting a young person one‑to‑one
  • Helping deliver creative, hands‑on sessions
  • Working out in the community
  • Encouraging learners to build confidence, independence and essential life skills

Every day brings new challenges, new breakthroughs and new moments that remind you why this work matters.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Ability to motivate and inspire children to believe in themselves.
  • GCSE Maths and English (minimum Functional Skills Level 2).
  • A proactive, can‑do mindset with the ability to think creatively and adaptively.
  • Either a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification OR a willingness to take advantage of our excellent free training opportunities (e.g. Level 2 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools) if not already achieved.
  • Ability to promote independence, positive behaviour, and personal development.

There is a need to be able to sometimes travel between sites within the specified locality to support and engage with young people as required. Having a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is preferred for transporting them to various locations.

🌟 We believe in supporting you as much as we support the children and young people in our care. Here’s a snapshot of the fantastic benefits waiting for you:
